Customer: DeSales University
DeSales University originally named Allentown College -- was created in 1965 by the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales at the urging of the Allentown Dioceses as a Catholic college for
men in Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton and Schuylkill Counties.
In 2001, the growing co-educational institution with 1,266 full-time undergraduate day students and a total enrollment of 2,730 graduate and evening students changed its name to
DeSales University to better reflect its focus on its Catholic heritage and its offerings for continued growth in graduate education.
Located in the town of Center Valley on 400 acres, Desales University's small suburban campus in eastern Pennsylvania's scenic Lehigh Valley is situated a few miles south of the cities of Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton and a short drive from Philadelphia and New York City. DeSales University is a
private, coeducational, four-year liberal arts university with strong Christian religious affiliations.
Since 2001, PenTeleData has been providing DeSales University with high-speed Internet access over our
ATM backbone network. Among its many features, ATM services allow customers the ability to videoconference from distant locations.
Ron Benner, Systems Technician of DeSales University Telecommunications said the school is satisfied with
both the quality of the dedicated high-speed Internet and multi-megabit ATM connection and the outstanding customer service and technical
support provided by PenTeleData.
"We've received an excellent response from PenTeleData's personnel and we're very satisfied with the
tremendous level of service they have delivered," he said. "The staff at
PenTeleData has always been helpful with both existing services and new service start-ups as well.
DeSales has been very satisfied with PenTeleData's level of customer service and support throughout our relationship. "
PenTeleData also received compliments from DeSales University on the health and reliability of its network.
"DeSales University has been very satisfied with PenTeleData's level of dependability and network performance
throughout our relationship of more than two years of working with one another," he said.
From facilitating the creation of a campus-wide data network wired for Internet access, to
encompassing entire residence halls with dedicated Internet connectivity, enabling DeSales
University to not only maintain but also develop and advance its technology plans and infrastructure
is where PenTeleData has excelled. PenTeleData has ensured the school administration always has
ample room for future technology blueprints to flourish.
"Higher network performance has allowed DeSales University to accommodate student residence use
while still maintaining throughput to vital services," said Benner.
How else has service with PenTeleData helped the DeSales University directly? In the spring of 1988,
the then-named Allentown College opened their Easton campus, an extension of its evening degree programs
and shortly after, DeSales opened a Harrisburg center for distance learning.
In the coming years, as the Internet became more popular and DeSales’ satellite facility
required constant connectivity to the home network, e-mail and the world wide web, PenTeleData was
called in to make the link-up happen.
"Thanks to PenTeleData's high-speed dedicated Internet access," said Benner,
"our connection to our DeSales University Easton-area campus at dedicated high speeds has
contributed to the overall satisfaction with our network at that location."
DeSales University and PenTeleData: partners in education that continue to enjoy a strong relationship
throughout the Lehigh Valley region, second to none.
