PenTeleData Critical System Announcement for Residential Customers (Microsoft Windows Vulnerability) 10/16/03

Please carefully review this critical announcement that outlines a new vulnerability in the Microsoft Windows operating systems.

The vulnerability can be triggered via a service which is most likely enabled on your system.

The PenTeleData Information Security Team has confirmed that the vulnerability is extremely widespread in nature and has the potential to be integrated into a worm such as "MS Blast/Blaster", "Nachi" or the "SQL Slammer".

As a result of this announcement, PenTeleData strongly urges all customers running the Microsoft Windows operating system to do the following:

1. Please ensure that ALL of the Microsoft Windows Critical Updates have been installed on your PC. These updates can be downloaded from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
2. Please ensure that the virus definitions for your anti-virus software are up to date and run the anti-virus software on your computer to detect and clear any infections.
