April 2003 - Volume 2 Issue 2

When Target Select first came to PenTeleData to depend on its Internet service back in 1997, the Lehigh Valley's regional cable television advertising company began with a single commercial dial-up Internet connection.

"From the beginning of our relationship in 1997, PenTeleData gets an A+ for performance and dependability," says Dave Covert, Operations Manager for Target Select. "The PenTeleData network has always performed at 100% for Target Select."

Six years later, the Allentown-based Target Select enjoys a second-to-none suite of high-speed dedicated Internet, security, data transport and networking solutions from PenTeleData, assisting their constant rapid growth throughout this part of the country.

"PenTeleData has been able to provide us with the proper service to fit our needs, whether it's an Ethernet connection to Ephrata, or a dedicated connection to Washington, DC - PenTeleData can make it happen," Covert says.

A full-service marketing company that concentrates on cable television, Target Select has a longstanding relationship with PenTeleData partners Blue Ridge Communications and Service Electric, as well as others. Target Select offers comprehensive advertising services, applying creative and production resources to shape marketing strategies for the needs of their advertisers and cable system partners, while supplying its clients with market research and a wide range of high-end production services.

Although most of Target Select's 40 employees are headquartered in Allentown, PenTeleData helps the company communicate with its sales offices throughout other parts of Pennsylvania, including Ephrata, Tunkhannock, Mansfield, Milford and Stroudsburg. Target Select also maintains an office in Washington, DC.

"The services that PenTeleData provides play a major roll in allowing Target Select to send and receive 30 and 60-second TV commercials from the main office to 11 commercial distribution sites across 216 cable channels, reaching half-a-million households throughout eastern and central Pennsylvania, and the Washington, DC metro area," states Covert.

Target Select receives multiple Etherpoint connections from PenTeleData partner Blue Ridge Communications to Tunkhannock and Ephrata; other connections include multiple Managed VPN services using two-way cable modems and dedicated connections, linking Target Select's headquarters to Washington DC, Trooper, PA and Mansfield, PA.

With offices and commercial distribution sites situated between states and in rural locations, swapping big files securely and in real time is a routine aspect of daily life, says Covert, adding that Target Select entrusts a large regional provider like PenTeleData to manage the bulk transfer of data and guarantee its immediate and safe delivery.

"These high-speed services are a necessity for Target Select in order to stay competitive in the cable advertising industry," he says. "Our ability to move and monitor a large amount of data in real time gives us the competitive edge. Target Select is able to reach a number of outlying markets that would not be available without the PenTeleData network. A television commercial can be approved in Allentown and air on ESPN in Mansfield, PA in minutes. Before our VPN Service to Mansfield, this would take up to three days. Target Select continues to grow, looking forward to using all of PenTeleData's available services."

How else has PenTeleData's dependability suited Target Select to satisfy all of its network infrastructure and performance needs?

"All of our existing services are very reliable," says Covert. "The Etherpoint connections have never gone down other than for the necessary upgrades. The same goes for our VPN connections. Over the years, PenTeleData has provided Target Select with a variety of Internet connections -- from dial-up to dedicated connections - offering our team high-speed Internet access."

Target Select has doubled in size in a timeframe of four years, Covert says, adding that the company has PenTeleData to thank for its high level of reliability and the quality of PenTeleData's wide range of services and support - two factors that have enabled Target Select to steadily expand in the Lehigh Valley and in each of its regional markets.

"Target Select has been very satisfied with PenTeleData service and support. From Sales and Engineering, to NCC, the entire team is always ready to go the extra mile regarding all of our business networking needs," he says. "All system upgrades are executed during off-peak hours, offering little or no application interruptions. The NCC monitors all of our configurations, allowing us to focus on our day-to-day growth without worrying about the network and its reliability," says Covert.
