DeSales University -- originally named Allentown College -- was created in 1965 by the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales at the urging of the Allentown Dioceses as a Catholic college for men in Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton and Schuylkill Counties.
In 2001, the growing co-educational institution with 1,266 full-time undergraduate day students and a total enrollment of 2,730 graduate and evening students changed its name to DeSales University to better reflect its focus on its Catholic heritage and its offerings for continued growth in graduate education.
Located in the town of Center Valley on 400 acres, Desales University's small suburban campus in eastern Pennsylvania's scenic Lehigh Valley is situated a few miles south of the cities of Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton and a short drive from Philadelphia and New York City. DeSales University is a private, coeducational, four-year liberal arts university with strong Christian religious affiliations.
Since 2001, PenTeleData has been providing DeSales University with high-speed Internet access over our ATM backbone network. Among its many features, ATM services allow customers the ability to videoconference from distant locations.
Ron Benner, Systems Technician of DeSales University Telecommunications said the school is satisfied with both the quality of the dedicated high-speed Internet and multi-megabit ATM connection and the outstanding customer service and technical support provided by PenTeleData.
"We've received an excellent response from PenTeleData's personnel and we're very satisfied with the tremendous level of service they have delivered," he said. "The staff at PenTeleData has always been helpful with both existing services and new service start-ups as well. DeSales has been very satisfied with PenTeleData's level of customer service and support throughout our relationship. "
|
PenTeleData also received compliments from DeSales University on the health and reliability of its network.
"DeSales University has been very satisfied with PenTeleData's level of dependability and network performance throughout our relationship of more than two years of working with one another," he said.
From facilitating the creation of a campus-wide data network wired for Internet access, to encompassing entire residence halls with dedicated Internet connectivity, enabling DeSales University to not only maintain but also develop and advance its technology plans and infrastructure is where PenTeleData has excelled. PenTeleData has ensured the school administration always has ample room for future technology blueprints to flourish.
"Higher network performance has allowed DeSales University to accommodate student residence use while still maintaining throughput to vital services," said Benner.
How else has service with PenTeleData helped the DeSales University directly? In the spring of 1988, the then-named Allentown College opened their Easton campus, an extension of its evening degree programs and shortly after, DeSales opened a Harrisburg center for distance learning. In the coming years, as the Internet became more popular and DeSales’ satellite facility required constant connectivity to the home network, e-mail and the world wide web, PenTeleData was called in to make the link-up happen.
"Thanks to PenTeleData's high-speed dedicated Internet access," said Benner, "our connection to our DeSales University Easton-area campus at dedicated high speeds has contributed to the overall satisfaction with our network at that location."
DeSales University and PenTeleData: partners in education that continue to enjoy a strong relationship throughout the Lehigh Valley region, second to none.

Dear Valued Customer,
It's that time of the year again to relax and unwind, so all of us here at PenTeleData hope you've had a great July 4th and find yourself enjoying whatever you like this summer: camping, vacationing, fishing or splashing around in the pool to keep cool and pass the lazy summer months in peace and quiet.
In this newsletter, read about PenTeleData's partnership with DeSales University of Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Our neighbors in the Lehigh Valley, DeSales receives a premier dedicated ATM solution and unparalleled service and support from PenTeleData that has helped foster growth for the small private institution near Allentown.
Again this year, promising to be another unforgettable musical extravaganza is Musikfest, right here in Bethlehem. This year's ten-day event runs at the start of August, from the first to the tenth of the month. Inside, learn about what we do for Musikfest and how we support the celebration as its partner. Also, learn of PenTeleData's sponsorship of the classic rock group Jethro Tull.
|
To wrap up this quarter's newsletter, read inside about PenTeleData's latest yearlong, collective technological achievement: in the spring we were awarded "Premier" status, a respected technical certification for cable Internet expertise from our longtime partner Cisco Systems.
This accomplishment is an important designation from Cisco, as evidenced by noting only one other company in Pennsylvania has been similarly endorsed by Cisco - an information integration company that's been one of our dedicated Internet customers for many years.
On behalf of all of us, I hope you, your family and friends stay safe throughout the rest of these summer months, and thank you for your continued support.
Let's chat again in the fall.
Sincerely,
Jeff Reinhard
Vice President of Operations

Dear Valued Customer,
It is with a heavy heart that I must regretfully inform you of the grave loss of a member of our immediate Pencor family.
In April, cable installer Jeffrey Dahms, 31-years-old and a member of our Pencor family as an employee assigned to the Lehighton, PA office of Blue Ridge Cable, was killed. He was on the job late Monday afternoon on April 28 in Mahoning Township, PA when he was struck by a drunk driver, taking his life. In that instance, he was taken away from his wife, Marla, and three young children as well as his co-workers and friends.
In Pencor, we are a family. When something happens to one member of the family, we all feel the loss.
I am feeling the sadness of this senseless tragedy, as are Jeffrey's co-workers and friends. We share in the grief his family is feeling.
When I called Jeffrey's family the night of the accident, I wondered how words can adequately express the sense of shock and sadness we are all feeling. What does one say when a mother loses her son, a wife loses her husband and children lose their father forever -- all because someone was too drunk to drive?
The death of a loved one is always hard. When someone so young is taken away, it is even harder. There are no words that can console a family or that can lift the blanket of sadness that has fallen over us since that tragedy.
There are no words that can bring back a spouse, a father, a friend, a co-worker.
Customers, co-workers and other cable companies are among those who have called asking how they can help. One way to reach out to this family is through a fund established for the Dahms family at the First National Bank of Palmerton. Checks can be made payable to the Jeffrey Dahms Fund and mailed to the First National Bank of Palmerton, P.O.Box 217, Palmerton, PA 18071.
In Pencor's 54 years of history, this is, to my knowledge, the only fatality to claim an employee while at work.
It is one too many! |

Pennsylvania and New Jersey's premier Internet, networking, security and data services provider just received a rare and valuable "Premier" technical certification for cable Internet services from its partner Cisco Systems.
Designed to distinguish and reward its valued partners with outstanding credibility in the marketplace, the Premier designation is Cisco's first of three prized certification levels offered for professional technical competence in the information technology industry.
