What exactly is DSL?
DSL is an acronym for Digital Subscriber Line technology. DSL is a relatively new technology utilizing existing copper phone lines to deliver high bandwidth Internet access. DSL is a service perfect for those who are currently using a standard "Dial-up connection" to access the Internet. PenTeleData DSL is available in a variety of speeds. These DSL speeds however are limited by several factors: the distance the customer is from each of our remote locations, and also the size and quality of the existing wire used. As a guideline, PenTeleData DSL can deliver 768 kbps up to a distance of 18,000 feet.

PenTeleData DSL technology is putting high-speed Internet access within the reach of small and medium size businesses today. Digital services, such as video on demand, distance learning, VPNs and E-commerce are very bandwidth intensive and until the advent of DSL, were difficult to deliver effectively to small and medium size businesses.

What can I do with DSL?

These are just some of the realities a PenTeleData DSL connection can bring to you.

How does DSL work?
A special DSL modem is installed and connected to a Network Interface Card (NIC) located in your computer or to an existing Ethernet Network. The DSL line is connected to a Multiplexer at one of our remote locations. This location is redundantly connected to our Network, Network Genesis, and then redundantly connected to the Internet Backbone. Remember, DSL is considered a secure service - Layer 2 connectivity. And unlike other high bandwidth solutions, A DSL connection is on a closed circuit making it less susceptible to risk or attack. A PenTeleData DSL connection is established using a PPP connection and authentication through the use of a PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) client.

What speed DSL do you offer?
PenTeleData Commercial Class DSL comes in a variety of speeds. To provide a service that will meet the challenges of today and your needs for future, PenTeleData offers SDSL - Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line. SDSL is designed to provide high bandwidth in both downstream and upstream directions. SDSL is the best suited DSL for commercial applications such as large file transfers, video conferencing and large volumes of e-mail.
