E-Mail

Make PenTeleData the primary provider for all of your E-mail needs.

Traditionally, it takes several days to send a letter across the country and weeks to send a postcard to the other side of the world. To save time and money, people are using an electronic form of communication called E-mail. It's fast, easy and less expensive than traditional mail delivery - otherwise known as 'snail mail'.

What is E-mail?

Simply, E-mail is an electronic message sent from one computer to another. E-mail enables a user to send or receive personal and business-related messages with attachments, such as pictures or formatted documents. Believe it or not, songs and computer programs can be sent via E-mail too!

The first step in using E-mail is to set up an E-mail account with PenTeleData. Similar to a Post Office Box, this provides an address where you send and receive your electronic messages. One advantage over regular mail is that you can retrieve your E-mail from virtually any location in the world. Once you connect to PenTeleData, you can download and read your mail - it's that simple!

To send and retrieve E-mail, PenTeleData offers two stand-alone E-mail solutions.

A Mail Me account:

A Mail Me account provides a user the ability to dial into any local PenTeleData location and connect to the mail server to retrieve E-mail. This is ideal for someone who would like the convenience of E-mail but does not need access to the World Wide Web. This account does not provide the ability to surf the Internet. If you're already connected to the Internet, you can Telnet into your Mail Me account to send and receive E-mail. If you aren't already online, you can dial into any of our locations using a VT100 compatible terminal program (not compatible using Microsoft Dial-up Networking) and use a text-based, ASCII E-mail program such as Pine to send and retrieve E-mail. Using this type of dial-in connection doesn't require any additional software. In fact, the dialing Terminal Program used to dial in is included with a standard Windows operating system. Detailed instructions for the use of this program are readily available in the Help section of your Windows software and elsewhere online.

An E-mailbox:

An additional E-mailbox may be added onto any existing PenTeleData Internet account. This is ideal if there are multiple individuals using the Internet in your household. Each member can have his or her own E-mail account! The user will be able to access E-mail by 'POPing' the E-mail account with a program such as Eudora or Outlook Express. Remember, it is preferred if you have a PenTeleData Internet connection to use with additional E-mailboxes. But even if you have Internet access with another Internet service provider, you can still use your PenTeleData E-mailbox. Its important to note that Dial-up Internet service does not come with extra E-mailboxes, and the user's mail client must be set to PenTeleData for all outgoing mail.
